4 Things Thursday

Hi friends! It's time for another installment of 4 Things Thursday and this week I am going to take another approach by answering 4 reader questions so you all can get to know me a little better.

Here goes nothing!

Maria @ Oh Healthy Day asked:

I'd like to know how you came up with your blog name. I saw it listed on Oh She Glow's website and the name just stood out from all the others because I thought it was super cute.

When I started my blog I wanted a name that conveyed my goals when it comes to my healthy living journey. First and foremost, this is about maintaining great health now and forever. Health to me is a combination of good, wholesome nutrition, an active lifestyle, managing stress and maintaining positive interpersonal relationships. Happiness is a huge part of health, as I believe the two are deeply interconnected. Its hard to be mindful of health when you are miserable and its equally as difficult to be happy when your in poor health. I try everyday to do the things that will lead me to a fulfilled and happy life. And skinny jeans are a symbol of a flirty and confident attitude. When you rock a sexy pair of skinny jeans you are telling the world you are awesome and you know it!!

Laura Jayne asked:

Why do you blog?

The list is long on this one!! I blog because I love writing and being creative in a way that is determined by me. This is my space and my forum and I have creative licence to decide what I include and how I convey it. That leads me to another reason, which is the ability to use a public space to share my thoughts, ideas, opinions, fears and accomplishments. Whether I have one reader or one million (a girl can dream!) I am putting myself out there in a very personal way. Blogging also keeps me accountable. Once I have written about a plan or a goal it feels more real and I am more motivated to follow through so I can report back and tell you all about it! And blogging gives me something in common with a lot of great people in a supportive community. I have learned a lot, been inspired and provoked and that is more valuable to me then I can adequately describe.

Tracey @ Commit to Fit asked:

When and why did you start running?

I had wanted to be a runner since I was a teenager but convinced myself that I simply wasn't one and would never become one because it was too hard and maybe my body wasn't cut out for it. Then I participated in the CIBC Run for the Cure  in 2009 and actually managed to run a full kilometre for the first time ever. It was life changing! I started building on running from that point and I am now training for my third 1/2 marathon which is in May.

Lauren @ Team Giles asked:

How often do you workout?

Currently I am for 5-6 days a week, 60 minutes per day. As I am in training for a half marathon I am aiming to run 3-4 times a week as well as cross train and practice yoga. My cross training includes teaching a Tabata and Cycle Pump class (one each per week) as well as spinning once a week. Yoga is also once or twice a week. Added up this sometimes means two trips to the gym in one day (morning and lunch) so I can squeeze it all in. I do make sure I get lots of sleep (7-9 hours a night), lots of stretching and foam rolling (daily) and a good solid rest day every week to give my poor muscles a break!

Well that's me for today kiddies! I'm off to foam roll and then get in a solid 8 hours of shut eye!

Have a great night!

So tell me, if you blog, why did you start?

Please keep sending in your questions...I love answering them!
Send me an email, a tweet or in the comments section and I will love you forever and ever...

  1. I started blogging for two reasons: (1) I've had friends suggest it to me forever and (2) my husband was so sick of hearing me talk about running all the time that I thought I would "talk" to people who actually wanted to hear it. When I start to talk to him about running, he gets this glazed look in his eyes. :-)

  2. I love the name of your blog:) I started blogging back in 2004 to stay connected with friends. Let me just say, it's REALLY funny to go back and read some of those posts. I just started this current blog back in the fall of 2010 as a way to discuss things that I see are common struggles in my counseling office. We often hear suggestions from people, but don't know what that looks like or how to really get there. I want to give the practical ways to change, challenge, and grow. Also, I'm on my own journey of health & wellness, and I like to show that too...

  3. I blog because I love being a part of a healthy community, and I love writing so it seemed like a natural fit.I don't know how you keep the motivation to go to the gym twice a day. It's inspiring!

  6. I started blogging right before I moved to a new city. I wanted a way to connect with new health and fitness minded people and stay connected to all of my friends I was having to leave. I never imagined where my blog would take me or how it would grow. My little space in cyber world provides me with so much joy as do the people I have met through blogging!

  7. Great post! And what a great question! I blog because I love writing - I love just being honest and open with the world about the successes and failures of fitness goals etc. Also - One day someone said they were inspired by my blog. If I can insprire just one person to keep up their fitness goals - or create a new one - that makes it all worth while to me :) Also - being part of this online community of fitness bloggers is awesome! I'm learning so much through their blogs (yours especially samantha!)
