I mean really, how can you go wrong with a stronger more toned midsection? Aside from its obvious aesthetic appeal, a strong core will make me stronger overall and this will definitely help me as a runner. Bonus!!
Here's the plan: Fit the DVD into at least 3 workouts a week for the next 6 weeks. Track my progress with photos and see what happens. Easy, peasey!
Today:
Now I'm no fool. I know that a few 30 minute workouts a week isn't going to get me the defined tummy I so desire. In the mix I am also running (4 or 5 days), spinning (1 day), doing Tabata (1 day) and yoga (1 day). On top of that I plan to continue eating healthy and wholesome food and drinking boat loads of water. (Boat loads of water might be a bad thing when I think about it...if waters in the boat then the boat must have sunk right?!)
Review:
I did the workout tonight for the first time. If you are familiar with Jillian Michaels you know she's tough and this circuit is no exception. Incorporating heart pumping cardio (burpees...eeek!!) with standing and seated abdominal work, she helps you work up a sweat in speedy half hour session. The DVD also includes 2 workouts; Beginner and Advance so once you master the first level there's a whole other set of torture waiting for you.
All and all I like it and I am interested to see the results. Stick with me as I plan to post weekly updates in a new section. And hey, why not join me in the challenge while you're at it? Leave me a comment if you want in on all the fun and I will add a link to your page in my next post.
So tell me, do you incorporate fitness DVDs in your routine? If so, which ones do you recommend? And do you plan to join me in this challenge?

Good for you for doing the video workout! I have no doubt Gillian is as mean on it as she is on the Biggest Loser. I am better in classes than on my own, but good for you for doing this!
ReplyDeleteI picked up the DVD on Saturday and did it ... Sunday I woke up in PAIN! My back muscles (really I have back muscles? ) my abs, my quads... OMG best workout I have done in a long time.
ReplyDeleteLike your workout plan.
I plan on doing the DVD 3 times a week, and to run every other day. Sundays I'm taking up HOT yoga.
So I'm gonna stalk you and Megann to see if this DVD really works! After 2 kids, I'm not sure how much improvement I can do on my abs, but you never know :)
ReplyDeleteI do love Jillian, I have a bunch of her other videos and she kicks so much ass!
Oh, I haven't seen this one of hers! I'm totally intrigued and may be joining you on this one! Her videos are TOUGH!!
ReplyDeleteOk, you got me hooked! Do I have to post belly pics though!?! :) I will be following you to see the results :)
ReplyDeleteI have used her 30 day shred and i definitely noticed a difference! I saw she just came out with this video - I will be following you to see how it goes!! GOod luck :)
ReplyDeleteOne of my collegues just started doing this DVD and she said it was super intense! I can't wait to hear what you think!! I love Yoga DVD's, becaue I like to do yoga right after I run, so the DVD's allow me to work around my schedule.
ReplyDeleteI really want to get this dvd! I love the shred so this would be another excellent strength training dvd for me to have on hand!
ReplyDeleteTo be honest, I'm really not a workout DVD kinda girl, but this one has me intrigued! I think if I were to try one, I'd start with this. Can't wait to hear what you think as you do more!
ReplyDeleteThere's something about JM that both inspires and terrifies me--something is a litle bit intimidating about her, in kind of an unusual way. Can't wait to see your progress!
ReplyDeleteI love workout DVDs! Being a sahm of 3 kids they make my life easier. Hope you get the results you are looking for. I've tried 30 day shred and I know JM gives good workout!
ReplyDeleteI think everyone with a blog is doing burpees this week, including me. Lucky we can be miserable doing them together. Good plan!
ReplyDeleteJust started this program too! Today I did my 2nd workout and like you I want to fit it in 3x a week along with my running. So far I love it...maybe not those burpees! ;) They get me every time. Here's to getting a strong core!
ReplyDeleteAwesome challenge! I have a plethora of fitness videos and I love incorporating them to switch up my routine!
ReplyDeleteOh I love new work out challenges!! I can't wait to hear all your feedback from the 6 pack work out :) And i love all the variety in your weekly routine... inspiring! I need to switch things up
ReplyDeleteooo I've done this work out with clients! It IS tough!! Goodluck girlie! ps. your abs are already pretty defined! Lookin' good!
ReplyDeleteGood luck!!!! Looking forward to see your progress-you already look awesome !
ReplyDeleteOMG I was just looking at that video online and thinking I should buy it and try it. Where did you get it? I'm not sure which stores are carrying it. Maybe I will follow your lead and post my progress as well! Good luck, you can do it!
ReplyDeleteI'm excited to follow along with this challenge. I'm currently doing Jillian's Boost Metabolism, Burn Fat, and I've done 30 day shred in the past. I've loved them both! I can't wait to see your progress!
ReplyDeleteI just picked that up last week too. I was feeling my abs and back at work yesterday. Looking forwards to getting down to again today.
ReplyDeleteAmazing challenge! I have this dvd too! Wish I read this sooner - I would have loved to do it with you guys! To answer your question - I have a pretty decent collection of fitness dvds. I incorporate them on rainy days, or days where I just don't want to be around other people at the gym. Typically I like to do workouts in groups - but sometimes an alone workout in the basement is needed. Afterall - I did convert my basement to a gym!
ReplyDeleteI might steal your idea and try this challenge on return of the jack!
You're so motivating! :) I can't wait to see week 6 pics!
You still doing the workout? You get any results?
