Review of NMTZ and my very first Green Monster!!

Happy Canada Day to my fellow Canadians! Our beautiful country turns 143 today (she doesn't look a day over a 100 in my opinion!) and its a beautiful day in Toronto. I can't wait to get out and enjoy the holiday

But first I thought I would do a quick review of Jillian Michaels' No More Trouble Zones fitness DVD

I first heard about it on Healthy Tipping Point, another one of my favorite health blogs. I tried it this morning (sans hand weights..I used cans of chickpeas hahaha! ) and all and all I would say if you are looking for a good strength training workout to do at home this is a good option. Jillian is notoriously tough (although not a personal favorite as fair as so-called fitness experts go) and the moves are challenging. I definitely broke a sweat and that was without weights!

The plan for this DVD is to use it as a go-to on days where I can't get to the gym. I will probably combine this 50 minute workout with 30 minutes of cardio to really kick it up a notch!

After my workout I decided that a protein shake was a must to get the day started. After reading on countless blogs about the famous Green Monster I decided it was time to give one a try.

Frozen fruit (strawberries, pineapple, melon and peaches), vanilla soy milk, a splash of fruit juice, a scoop of vegetarian protein powder and of course spinach all got thrown in the blender and ta-da!

My very first Green Monster!

Paired with some multigrain toast with apple butter and a few grapes and I was set up with a delicious breakfast!

The Boyfriend and I are off to spend Canada Day travelling around Toronto, taking in the festivities and capturing the city in photographs with my new camera. (Stay tuned for a recap of our day)

Have a great day everyone!

So tell me, how are you spending your Canada Day (whether you are Canadian or not)?

  1. I'm a fan of Jillian's videos. Not necessarily of her, but her videos are hardcore!

  2. I'm not a Jillian fan but I've heard her workout videos are really beneficial.

For Canada day I'm sitting in an office from 9-5 (and then in night school 6-10 arg!) in the U.S. anxiously waiting for 4th of July :)

  3. I actually have that exact same video! I've played it only once though... only because I was ready to pass out in the first 10 mintues! ;-) It was good though, it certainly makes you sweat! Definately would recommend it!

  4. I would recommend switching to almond milk from blue diamond. lower in calories and I think tastes better - plus no soy.

  5. Aren't Green Monsters delicious?! My favourite combo is almond milk, frozen bananas, peanut butter chocolate flavoured whey protein, and spinach. SO good! I celebrated Canada Day by going to a couple of barbecues and visiting with friends. Hope you had fun with the new camera! :)

  6. This DVD, along with 30 Day Shred and Boost Metabolism, is hard. But after every workout I feel AMAZING. Yes, I'm exhausted, sweaty, and my muscles are aching and trembling, but I feel energized and sharper mentally. I exercise five days a week, alternating workout videos, and take the weekends "off", during which I find I now have more energy to do everything from working in the garden to running around theme parks. I'm actually sleeping better too.
