The Road to 26.2...

The road to 26.2 started the first time I laced up my sneakers and went for a run..

It started when I began signing up for and running races...

It started when I read all of your fabulous blogs that detailed training for and running a marathon....

It started when I read great running books and continued to be inspired...

It started when I began to think of eating as fuel and made conscious decisions on how I want to fuel my body to get the most out of it...

It started when I accomplished one dream (finishing a 1/2 marathon) and realized I could continue to reach for the stars...

I don't think I believed it then, but the road to 26.2 was being paved.

And I am here and I am ready.

26.2 on October 23, 2011.

  1. Congrats! Running 26.2 miles is truly life-changing. If it's something you really want to do, you should do it. You will not regret the decision. Training is hard and very time-consuming, but it is worth it! You will come out of the race stronger...and probably addicted to the marathon!

  2. That is awesome! Loved the post. I have it on my bucket list to do a 1/2 marathon this year & a full marathon before I'm 40. (Not too far away :))

    Good luck!

  3. I'm impressed with your marathon plans! I'm sticking with the half -- it's hard enough. Those long training runs don't sound that much fun to me. Hope you have a running buddy. Also, when I saw a marathon t-shirt that said "toe nails are for whimps" I decided not to try the full marathon. I'm a whimp, I like having all my toe nails. :)

  4. Good Luck with your training, and on race day! I'm sure there will be many more Good Lucks until then as well!

I have not run a full, and I don't know that I want to. I have conflicting feelings. I sort of feel like i HAVE to. Like, I'm a runner, I've run 3 half marathons and I feel like people EXPECT that the next thing to do is run a full. But, I don't feel that way. 26.2 is a LONG WAY, I can't even wrap my head around that. I have more work to do in the half-marathon. I want to run a sub 1:50. Then maybe I can think about a marathon..maybe.

  5. Yay for new goals and race registrations!

I've completed 1 marathon & it was seriously the hardest thing I've ever done - physically and mentally. I was definitely NOT in a good place with running at the time and basically did it because I thought I "should", not because I "wanted to". I ran with my husband for all of our training runs and on race day & sadly it was a really bad experience for us - my bad attitude about running made it torture for me, and for him! Race day was SO hard - it was super cold and I hated just about every step. BUT, I finished...it took over 6 hours but I did it. Am I proud of it? Not really. Do I want to another one? Yes. Someday. Am I in a better place with running now? YES! Do I still run with my husband? No - we learned our lesson!

I definitely learned A LOT about myself during the process though, so even though I didn't have the greatest experience, it was definitely worth it!

Can't wait to see how your training goes!

  7. How exciting!!!!

I have no marathon plans for 2011 right now (even though a few fall ones have been tempting me!) but I ran my first marathon last October and it was an overall good experience. I enjoyed training and while the race didn't go as I had hoped or planned I'm glad I did it and I'm very proud of the accomplishment.

Looking forward to following you through training!!

  10. How exciting for you to have picked your marathon! I would like to do one...eventually. For now I am looking forward to my first 5k post baby. I'll work my way back to a half and then go from there. Can't wait to hear how you do. Happy running...

  11. I ran my first marathon last May and am just finishing up training for marathon #2! I have a love/hate relationship with marathon training but nothing motivates me to keep running like knowing I have 26 miles on race day.

Looking forward to reading about your training!

  12. Haven't done a full yet mainly because I feel I should improve my half marathon time before going for the full. I want to run a full but I want to have a good time. Most people just want to run it and that's it, I want to run it and be proud of my time. Good luck with your training. I ran the Niagara Half last year, gorgeous course!

  13. Good luck to you on your full!! I feel the same way about prepping for a half. I have read Mile Markers and it motivated me to do something and of course all the blogs I have discovered is even more motivation and encouragement.
I can't wait to follow along as you train and on race day!
